Nowadays, the discipline of interface design includes much more than just the mere graphical design aspects of a user interface (UI). Interface design characterizes and strengthens the brand image of a company and has significant influence on the success of a product on the market. For many technical devices, which consist essentially of only one screen surface, interface design is the only formal- aesthetic means to set itself apart from its competitors.
Ideally, the interface design of a technical product undergoes a formal symbiosis with the product design. From our experience the early and especially the simultaneous consideration and design of both components from a single source offers many benefits, since product and interface are perfectly harmonized and made compatible.
User Interface (UI)
Anlog, static operating sequences are increasingly disappearing from our product world in favor of digital, dynamic operating procedures which respond appropriately to growing functional complexity of technical products . Graphical User Interfaces ( GUI ) are taking their place and enable new operating procedures and control structures. The interface design must adapt to the continuous progress of display technology.
We see it as our job to monitor this development and always be up to date.
At the beginning of every project we analyze and identify the requirements and use cases. What input and output technologies are used? Are there several output formats or orientations of the GUI? In what kind of environment is the user interface used?
To guarantee a most consistent design and interface development, we check early interaction concepts and first formal approaches at an early stage of a project. We create simple paper prototypes and simple wireframes that visualize the basic layout and navigation structure without design detailing. Also, we visualize structural workflow concepts and interaction processes with flow charts.
On request, we prepare click dummies of the software interface in various possible degrees of detail to enable you to experience the operating logic of early concepts or the look and feel of first screen designs and interaction processes and make them assessable for you. Clickdummys provide valuable information for the further course of a project and allow a better understanding and speed up decision-making processes.
We are happy to offer this service to you independently of our design development as well, in case you plan on carrying out interim evaluations of design concepts as we go along with the project.
User Experience (UX) and Usability
A user-centered approach (User Centered Design) in designing products and software interfaces is the basis for each interface project. Crucial to the evaluation of any creative performance is the operation quality.
The operating complexity of technical devices is increasing constantly. Accordingly, the stress goes up leading up to excessive demands on the user. For graphical user interfaces, this requires above all the creation of a coherent operating logic that supports the user in operating a device. Also, animations and similar dynamic interaction elements and acoustic feedback as tones and sounds can support the user further. The challenge is to keep the content of complex operating structures simple and make it easy to operate.
Our aim is to design interfaces that puts the user at the center and enable him to interact naturally and effortlessly in his increasingly technical environment.
Once the decision for a design concept is made, we will work out the details of the user interface. We create design grids, color concepts, icon families, graphics and animations. Working closely with your software developers we create pixel-perfect implementation files according to your specifications. We create project documentations and reference documents in the form of style guides and interface guidelines in order to ensure a consistent implementation of the selected design draft.
